The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon

This book is part Holocaust story/part comic book history with references to the magician Houdini thrown in.
Samuel Klayman meets his cousin Josef Kavalier when Joseph comes to America as a refugee from Nazi occupied Prague. The young men create a new comic book character called "The Escapist" who is part Houdini and part super hero.
Joe's motivation for creating "The Escapist" is to finance the rescue of his family from Prague. The story touches on the themes of love, war, dreams and art to name a few.
To find out what happens to Sammy, Joe and "The Escapist" you must read the book!
