This book is the perfect choice for a long summer weekend. It's best to read this when you have a good chunk of time to devote to it because you won't want to put it down or have the story end.

This is the story of Calla Lily whose mother is a beautician and part time dance instructor along with Calla's father. They live in Louisianna and the town and state they live are as much "characters" of the book as the actual people themselves.

The story is told from Calla's point of view and takes place at Calla's birth and continues until Calla is 31. During this time span Calla has many adventures, joys and heartaches that change her from a child to a mature adult. To say much more about the plot would spoil things.
